Knysna is situated on South Africa’s only National Lake, which is also the country’s largest permanent estuary. The waters of the Indian Ocean channel through two large sandstone cliffs, The Knysna Heads, forming the gateway to the old harbour (Thesens Jetty) from where ships carried timber to the far corners of the globe, into the wide lagoon basin.
The enchanting town of Knysna is surrounded by the Outeniqua Mountain range, engulfed by indigenous forests and the protected 21 square kilometre marine reserve, locally better known as the ‘Lagoon’.

GOLF
Knysna Golf Club is nestled on the shores of the Knysna Lagoon on the Garden Route and close to the Heads. Our 18-hole course meanders through tidal pools and between magnificent indigenous trees with long par-5s, tricky par-3s and some challenging par-4s. It is an enjoyable test for every level of golfer.
A testing links/parkland layout which has been enhanced over the past ten years, it has some of the best greens in the Southern Cape and has many natural hazards.
Although Knysna Golf course is flat and easy to walk, it still provides players of all levels with a good challenge and is an affordable golfing experience not to be missed while touring the area.
Simola’s Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course is living proof of just how great ‘Golf’s Greatest Champion’ really is when it comes to designing with nature.
Set in probably the most scenic town in Africa, situated lower than the ridges that surround it – and therefore untroubled by the wind that plagues so many coastal courses – and boasting an unusual configuration of five par-5s and five par-3s, Simola offers challenging and rewarding golf for pros and high-handicap players alike.
